On July 7, we arrived here for four nights. We booked a site on the west side where the full hookups are located. The sites are huge, ours is about 150 foot long pull through. Our site had water and mountain views in site 18. This is desert climate and topography here and very hot this time of the year. Daytime temps were up to 106 during our stay and our air conditioner ran 24/7. The lake is well used and there was a video shoot for Katy Perry while we were here and they closed our beach and the Island for this one day event. Our site was relatively level but I did use my leveling jacks. The park looks new and all sites come with covered patios with table, fire pit, and BBQ grill. However, as of July 1, no wood or charcoal fires allowed in the park. The only two gripes I have with this park is when you leave the park for whatever reason, you must wait in the only line to re enter which can take a few minutes. Also, the campground is one way in and one way out and all pull through sites on the left side of the street are set up with electric, sewer, and water are on the same side as the campsite so your entry door faces the street, not your campsite. Other than that, this is a great park with large reservoir for swimming, boating, and fishing; and I paid $28 per night plus $8 reservation fee. There are plenty of open sites here and most campers stay only one night except the campers with boats. This park is close to Zion National Park and St. George, Utah. I rate this park F****.
We left pretty much on schedule at 10 PM on July 6, and spent the night in a rest area as planned, on Interstate 15, just two hours from Las Vegas, Nevada where we planned to service our rig at Speedco. Well, there was nothing speedy about it and we were there 4.5 hours for a job which should have taken an hour or less. After talking with customers in the waiting room, it seems to be standard operating proceedures at this location. Well, we arrived at Sand Hollow with plenty of daylight left at 7:30 PM. We could not disconnect our Tahoe as the battery had died, (I forgot to turn the key off while we were sleeping in the rest area). I tried to jump from our motorhome, but my 15 foot jumper cables would not reach. I borrowed another 12 foot set from a neighbor camper and linked them together, but still no luck (probably because it was too long). So I called out AAA and they no longer replace batteries in this area so they jumped me and I ran engine for 30 minutes to recharge battery and was then able to engage the transmission and detach the car from the motorhome. However, the next morning it would not start so AAA got another call for a jump and off to the local Walmart where they installed a new battery in record time.
We took day trips to Zion National Park and Kolob Terrace from this campground. (another post)
