We arrived here July 26, for 6 nights. This is a membership park and is located across the street from the largest lake in Colorado, the Blue Mesa Lake. We had a view of the lake from our site. The sites were 45 foot wide and terraced as they went up the hill. The park has 2 pools and one spa and very well maintained. There was a club house and laundry facilities. The park is selling sites in the park and is not open during the winter (November - April). We had satellite reception, but no cell phone and had full hookups with 30 AMP electric. This campground had the hookups located behind the motorhome which required 3 ten foot lengths of sewer hose. Who carries 3 sewer hoses? The 25 foot electrical cord did not reach either until I added an extension. You also shared the electrical pedestal with the camper behind you. Once I endured this process I was a happy camper. You also had to walk a city block to the 8 or 10 dumpsters which were all clustered together. We paid $10 per night and I rate this campground M***.
Gunnison, the closest city was 10 miles up the highway where you can get groceries and sewer hoses. Fishing from shore was good as we watched a family pull in some good sized 14 inch rainbow trout. Buddy was able to go for a swim in the lake and romp along the shoreline in pure freedom. Children were swimming in the lake, but there was a strange blue algae along the shoreline which kept me out of the water. We only stayed about an hour as we could no longer tolerate the bugs. We did a little 4 wheeling along the lake until I felt the rocks might puncture a tire. I did not want to change a tire in the middle of nowhere.
We took a day trip to Lake City to see some moose as one of the campers said they were all around there. No luck, but it was a nice ride and a full day. Lake City is a cute little city, like many cities we travelled through, this trip is like stepping back in time. There was a nice park in the middle of town with green grass and about an acre in size. Dog's were not allowed on the grass, so Buddy had to stay in the Tahoe. He got his turn at a forest picnic area a few miles up the street.
We also took a day trip to Telluride (another post) which was a 5 hour round trip drive.
Check out these rainbow colored cirrus clouds we enjoyed while in the campground.
A severe thunderstorm came through one day which required us to bring the slides in and all awnings. The rain was blowing sideways and the wind was shaking our 32000 pound coach. It lasted less than 1 hour. Buddy was cowaring in the bedroom along with Aggie.
